Household hazardous waste cannot be disposed of in the trash!

Recology San Benito County Household Hazardous Waste There are many items that are considered household hazardous waste. Look for precautionary statements on product labels such as poison, danger, warning and caution to assist you in determining if an item is household hazardous waste. When disposed of improperly, these wastes can do serious damage to the health of humans, wildlife and the environment.
Some examples of hazardous waste are:
  • Car batteries
  • Leftover paint
  • Medical waste
  • Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs
  • Poisons
  • Solvents
  • Toxic cleaners
  • Used oil

Electronics waste cannot be disposed of in the trash!

Disposal Information

The San Benito County Integrated Waste Management Regional Agency holds a Household Hazardous Waste collection event.

When: Third Saturday of every month
Where: John Smith Road Landfill, 2650 John Smith Road, Hollister
Time: 9:00am to 12:00pm (noon)

This event is free to residents of San Benito County. You may bring up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds per trip. Please call (831) 636-4110 for more information.
